Sustainability >> About this report

Sustainability is recognised as being essential to the long-term success of the group. We subscribe to the three pillars of sustainability:
  • Social
  • Economic
  • Environmental

The Alexander Forbes sustainability report for the period to 31 March 2005 focuses on the South African operations of the group and follows best practice.

In May 2005, the JSE Securities Exchange South Africa issued its second Socially Responsible Investment (“SRI”) Index. The index is aimed at increasing awareness and management of sustainable business practices, in particular through adopting the “triple bottom line” as a way of doing business. The process, which was conducted and quality assured independently, involved a detailed assessment against criteria relating to participants’ policies, strategies and activities in respect of corporate governance, the environment, the economy and society. Forty-nine listed companies, including Alexander Forbes, qualified for inclusion in the index. The accreditation serves to sharpen our focus on what needs to be done to promote the interests of all stakeholders to ensure ongoing sustainability.
