Alexander Forbes senior management team reshuffle deepens transformation
Jurie Erwee, until recently Managing Director of
Alexander Forbes Risk Services (AFRS), has been appointed CEO of Alexander
Forbes Risk and Insurance Services. Tutu Madungandaba will replace Erwee as
Managing Director of Risk Services. Greg Wattam will take up the position of
Deputy Managing Director of Risk Services. All three appointments are effective
1 June 2009.
Erwee, who will become a member of the Alexander Forbes
Group Executive Committee, is replacing Anton Ossip who was recently promoted to
Group Head of Operations at Alexander Forbes.
Erwee has been with the group for 20 years, having
joined the Stellenbosch business as a graduate trainee in 1989. Erwee became
Regional Head: Risk Services Coastal Operations in 2002. In 2004 Erwee
transferred to Sandton as Operations Head of Risk Services before becoming MD of
Risk Services in 2005.
Under Erwee’s leadership the corporate and commercial
risk business has gone from strength to strength achieving a high level of
client retention and new business.
Erwee’s successor, Tutu Madugandaba, has been with the
Alexander Forbes Group for 18 years, having joined Alexander Forbes’s Pretoria
branch as a graduate trainee shortly after qualifying as an attorney in 1987./span>
Madugandaba, until recently Executive leader of AFRS’s
Public Enterprises business unit, was instrumental in the formation of Faranani
Risk Solutions, an empowerment company initiated by Alexander Forbes to support
enterprise development and capacity building in the insurance broking industry.
As MD Madugandaba was instrumental in positioning Faranani Risk Solutions as a
dominant player in the public enterprise sector. Faranani was reincorporated
into AFRS in 2005.
“Under Madugandaba’s leadership AFRS Public Enterprises
Division has become the leading insurance broker for local authorities in South
Africa” said Jurie Erwee, CEO of Alexander Forbes Risk & Insurance Services.
Greg Wattam joined AFRS as a graduate trainee in 1993
and has worked in a number of industry sectors, including manufacturing, mining
and forestry where he has earned respect in the market as an industry
specialist.
Wattam has been a valuable member of AFRS senior management team for the
last four years exercising management responsibility for a number of strategic
business units within AFRS’ corporate insurance broking entity
“Wattam’s knowledge of the Risk Services business is significant and I have no
doubt he will provide invaluable support to the new Managing Director of
Alexander Forbes Risk Services, to whom he will report.
“Furthermore, appointing two internal trainees from
Alexander Forbes Risk Services to senior positions is something that the
business and management teams can rightfully be proud of” concludes Erwee.
